HCWC Wrestlers excel at VAC

Higher Calling took six wrestlers to compete at the Virginia Challenge, which is the biggest youth dual tournament in the country, fielding teams from New York to California.

With strong representation for Cleveland, Cooper Hilton rumbled his way to a 10-0 record and a gold medal in the sixth-grade field. Teammate Ethan Uhorchuk, took bronze with an 8-2 record.

Silver was also brought home by fifth-grader Jospeh Uhorchuk, who finished 9-1 over the weekend at the 19th annual tournament held in the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Other local wrestlers competing in the USAW sanctioned event were Hudson Chittum (5-5, fifth grade), Mattox High (3-7, fourth grade) and Logan Raske (4-6, third grade).

“Our wrestlers develop a love for the sport and build a strong work ethic that will carry them through life,” said HCWC head coach Josh Bosken. “We want to teach the young athletes moral character and good sportsmanship. Winning starts at this level, which is why Cleveland is a hotbed for champions.”
